Seguin Misses Breakfast and Game

So I was going to mention this in my game summary but I figured it is a big enought story that it could get its own post.

Tyler Seguin was scratched from last nights game against Winnipeg because he missed a team breakfast yesterday morning.

I am fine with the move, the kid is 19 and should be able to get up for work. Let’s be real here. We have all been 19 at one point in time and went out on a Monday night bender when we had work early the next morning and we got our hungover asses up and to work on time.

Now in no way am I saying Seguin was out boozing. He just couldn’t get out of bed. The teams flight got in late and he slept in. The kicker is, team breakfast is about a three hour window that you just need to check-in for. Its not like the entire team sits at one big table for breakfast at 8 a.m.

It is rumormed that Seguin said he missed breakfast because his alarm was set to Boston time. BULLSHIT. Everyone who has bought a cell phone anytime after 1999 knows that the time on the phone adjust when you move time zones. Also, Seguin went back an hour in time. So for argument, lets say breakfast was at 8 a.m. Winnipeg time and Seguin set his alarm for 8 a.m. Boston time. Well that means his alarm would have gone off at 7 a.m. Winnipeg time..hmmmm.

ESPN Boston “Honest mistake,” Chiarelli said. “But we have team rules. He has to abide by them.”

Chiarelli also said Seguin has done this before but he’s not worried about it.

“I don’t see it as a problem,” Chiarelli said. “I see it as a young player who sometimes forgets to set his alarm.”

Seguin is the Bruins top point getter (25 points) and would have been a big help in the game last night. But the team did the right thing proving a point.

Krejci Extended Thru 2014-15

ESPNThe Bruins signed center David Krejci to a new three-year contract that will run through the 2014-15 season. Krejci, 25, was in the final year of his contract that will pay him $4 million this season.

In a press conference Thursday afternoon, Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli confirmed an ESPN.com report that the deal is worth an average of $5.25 million per year. Chiarelli also praised the Czech center for his talent and vision on the ice.

“In looking at what David has done for the Bruins, a very important contributor, has really developed his two-way game and he’s obviously a very good offensive player,” Chiarelli said. “We saw him shine in the playoffs last year and we saw what the loss of him meant to us the year before in the playoffs. He’s done everything we’ve asked and more.

Well this means one of two things for the future of David Krejci, he will be a Bruin until 2015 when his contract is up. Or, he is becoming trade bait.

What is better trade value than a top center, who is going to be locked-up for the next three season. Sure people would want Krejci in a trade but if a team got him this season it could just be a possible rental until the end of the year. Now a team willing to trade (perhaps an Anaheim looking to trade Bobby Ryan..hmm, hmmm) know’s if Krejci is involved in the deal he will be with their club for a few years.

From a Bruins perspective, if they have no plans of trading him, then awesome. Another key piece of the puzzle is locked-up and not going anywhere for awhile, like the rest of this young Bruins team.

Time To Maketh Some Trade

ESPNBostonBruins general manager Peter Chiarelli told WEEI on Tuesday that he would consider trading the team’s first-round draft pick — which they acquired in the Phil Kessel trade — if the right deal came along.

“Yeah, I’d look at it, sure,” Chiarelli said. “I’ve had discussions involving that pick. I certainly would look at it. We’ve got a lot of assets, so that alone allows us to be creative also … there’s been one [deal] that we’ve thrown around here internally, I don’t know that I would do it but it’s something that warrants further discussion.”

Last season Chiarelli was adamant that the Bruins would not trade their first-round pick from the Maple Leafs, a pick they used to sign Tyler Seguin as the No. 2 overall pick. This year’s draft class, Chiarelli said, does not appear as strong as the one that included Seguin and No. 1 overall pick Taylor Hall.

When asked if the Bruins are likely to make a deal before the Feb. 28 deadline, he answered: “I would bet on it.”

I love trade deadlines, in any sport, especially when your team has the money available, resources, and willingness to make a big time move. The fact that the Bruins are willing to offer a potential top-5 pick in order to better their team for a Cup run this season is awesome.

Some of the rumors, ehh aren’t so great. One of the rumors floating is around is the B’s making a play for puck-moving defenseman Brad Richards from Dallas. Richards is a free-agent at the end of the year and although he would help out the D tremendously, HE IS NOT A GOAL SCORING FORWARD.

What does nobody get about this? Seriously. In order to win in the playoffs you need to be physical and score goals. Sure, Richards will score goals from the blue line but he will not score goals like a 40-50 goal scorer would.

I mean Richards (21 g, 38 a, 59 pts) is a free-agent at the end of the year, if you are going to gamble on a free-agent why not Jerome Iginla. Trade for Iginla (22 g, 28 a, 50 pts) now and if you don’t like the way he plays then make a play for Richards in the off-season if he is still available.

Something needs to be done, I just hope its not for prospects and another defenseman.

Bruins Pick 2nd; Start Quest Tomorrow

Last night was the always exciting NHL Draft lottery. Peter Chiarelli was in attendance as he was hoping he could pull-off the ultimate “F** you” to Toronto by trying to make the trading of Phil Kessel turn into the first overall pick in the draft.

2010 Draft Order:
1. Edmonton Oilers
2. Boston Bruins (from Toronto)
3. Florida Panthers
4. Colombus Blue Jackets
5. New York Islanders

The draft lotto came and went but Edmonton received the first pick and the Bruins ended up with the second pick in the draft, as expected. This is still excellent, as of now all signs are pointing to Taylor Hall but Tyler Seguin looks to be just as good of a player. Although this could all be worthless is the rumblings are true about Chiarelli toying with the idea of trading the pick along with Bergeron and Ryder to Calgary for Jerome Iginla.

–Side note: This is the second time Chiarelli has ripped off Toronto, his first move as a GM with Boston was trading Andrew Raycroft for the rights to Tuukka Rask.

On a current note the Bruins begin the playoffs tomorrow, in Buffalo. It will be interesting to see which Bruins team shows up, this is going to be a low scoring series, which in a way could work into the Bruins favor but there needs to be goal production from every line in order to win.

If there is anything the Bruins should play for is the possibilty of Marc Savard’s return. Chiarelli dicused the health of Savard during the draft lottery last night. According to espn.com Chiarelli said, “Savy’s had some good days lately and you don’t want to rule him out, but he’s still a ways away.” It is still a long shot, the article also said Savard would need to be headache free for seven days before he could return to the ice.

With the way the Bruins dealt with Bergeron and his concussion after being hit by Randy Jones I find it hard to believe Chiarelli, Claude, and the medical staff would let him just hop into the second round of the playoffs. But stranger things have happened, who knows

He’s Losing His Mind

^^This is how Chiarelli reacted when he found out the trade deadline was at 3pm.

What the f@#k is Peter Chiarelli doing???? The Bruins, who have no scoring, and are more streaky than a shy drunken high school student wearing a body suit pretnedning to streak across the field.

First he trades Derrick Morris to Phoenix for a 4th round draft pick. That does not bother me so much because I’m thinking well if the B’s move Morris there is a chance they try to land Kabrele or someone similar. But NOO, Chiarelli then deals Craig Weller and Byron Bitz for Dennis Sidenberg, Matthew Bartkowski and a 2nd round draft pick.

Bruins GM, Peter Chiarelli

WHAT THE F#$K!!! The Bruins need a goal scorer and sorry Chiarelli, Miroslav Satan is not cutting it. I do not care if Chiarelli trades for Ovechkin by the end of the day, he is still a moron.

–Although the Bruins will have the best AHL team in the world.
