The Bear Flu

NESNMilan Lucic returned to Bruins practice on Tuesday, and when he did, he was probably wondering where everyone was.

Lucic returned to a less-than-full practice roster. Seven Bruins missed practice on Tuesday with what’s being described as flu-like symptoms. Teams aren’t going to want to take any chances this time of year and risk something being passed around the locker room even more than it already has been. Gregory Campbell, Nathan Horton, Daniel Paille, Andrew Ference, Anton Khudobin, Patrice Bergeron and Adam McQuaid all missed practice.

I mean I remember a few years back teams were taking caution when going over the border because of the bird-flu, apparently the bear flu is just as potent. Damn plane rides.

As for the rest of the team. The B’s have played the first quarter of the season. Record wise they have the best start in franchise history. Don’t let the 5th seed in the conference deceive you either, the B’s have played the least amount of games in the East and have three games in hand on Montreal who is only three points ahead of the Bruins.

Things we’ve learned:

-Without Brad Marchand in the first 13 games the Bruins would be screwed when it comes to scoring goals.

-The goaltending has been outstanding.

-Power play still sucks.

-Seguin needs to find his groove and stop thinking he is playing Eurotrash hockey.

-Is Chara OK?!?!

-Dougie and Bourque are adjusting well.

The B’s still have to finish off this road trip and will have a tough stretch of games to come. Still meetings against the Flyers, Penguins and divisional games in, what is a log-jammed Northeast Division right now.

Gold Medal Game today at 3pm

…if the USA Jr. Team chanting in the locker room after beating the Canadians on their own soil back in January doesnt get you pumped up for this game…nothing will

Men’s Final

I GIVE UP!!! I got all excited when I picked the first six games of the Olympic tournament right then everything I thought was right went to shit. The Slovak’s beat Sweeden, Finland beats the Czech’s then I thought there was no shot the US scores a goal on Kipprusoff and Finland…way off. I had banked on Canada losing to Sweeden but with Sweeden losing before they could play Canada that posed a problem.
So I do not know what to expect for the Gold Medal Game. After the USA win over Canada, the Canadians seem to have a fire lit under their asses and are playing every game like it is thier last. I think Canada out played the US in the first game and it will be the same again, just with a different result.

I say Canada over USA 6-2.

…but what do I know

USA, Jr. World Champions

Team USA celebrates gold medal victory

Just days after losing 5-4 in a shootout to Canada, the USA hockey team pulled off a 6-5 overtime win to take the gold medal. In what was essentially a home game for team Canada, John Carlson ripped a shot short side on the Canadian netminder during a three on one break for the US to secure the victory and silence the 15,000 plus, sell-out crowd inside the Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

The US battled back from the brink of disaster to hang on and win the game. The US took a 5-3 lead during the third period which they later surrendered and Canada tied the game with 1:32 remaining.

Winning the gold for the US also dethrone’s the five-time defending champions Canada. This is a big statement for a US team who finished 5th in last years tournament. Hopefully we will see more of the same next when the tournament comes back to the states, in Buffalo.
