Cheap Shot

^^CAUTION…THIS VIDEO HAS SOME GRAPHIC PARTS.
This is arguably the worst cheap shot I’ve ever seen. It is defiantly in the top three with Todd Bertuzzi and Marty McSorley. This video features a player from the Canada Junior team Patrice Cormier.

Now, for those who aren’t sure if they should watch this video. I do not understand how this guy got hurt so bad. The graphic part if the player convulsing on the ice. But it almost looks like the player who threw the elbow missed the guys head.

Either way Cormier defiantly made contact in a brutal cheap shot. He should be banned from the game for life. There is no reason a player should come off the bench and go head hunting for another player. Which is exactly what happened here.

–This is not the first time Cormier has pulled this stunt.

Kansas City Patriots

Weis, Bellichick, Crennel

During the course of last week the Kansas City Chiefs organization added a defensive coordinator in Romeo Crennel and an offensive coordinator in Charlie Weis. It is interesting because Chief’s GM Scott Pioli was the GM of the Patriots during their span of winning 3 Super Bowls. Along with both coordinators on the sidelines.

Which gets me to wondering if Bill Bellichick will ever end up in Kansas City. I’m not saying he is going to up and leave before next season. But maybe three or four years down the road, if the Patriots are still the team they are now. Maybe Bellichick explores his options, if the option is there.

Who knows, maybe he can turn Matt Cassel into the next Tom Brady.

Ball Boy Pee’s Himself

Ball Boy Problems

There was a 30 minute delay when a ball boy urinated himself during an Australian Open match. The match was in the 4th set when the ball boy ran off the court leaving a trail of urine on the court. There was a delay so the court staff could dry the court so no one would get hurt.

I think this is hilarious, not only could the kid not wait till he was able to get a fellow ball boy to cover for him. But he had to run off the court leaving a trail. Priceless.

Can We Bring Back the Blue Paint

Who misses the Blue paint inside the net

I know this is very random and I do not know why I like this. But I saw and old NHL clip with the blue paint in the net. I do not remember the exact seasons but the NHL added the blue paint inside the net along with the crease.

I have no idea why the NHL got rid of the paint inside the net. I just think it is a cool look and it is not like it affects any part of the game. The only reason I think they got rid of it is because it could have been difficult to review questionable goals.

Bridge Closed for Construction

Could be one of those types of seasons

Throughout the off-season Theo has said how this upcoming season will be a bridge season for the Sox. Which is fine and I respect that teams need to take a year to re-sign within the organization and save money for a potential bring name player down the line. The Red Sox representative keep saying they think the Sox will be a solid ball club with a chance to win this season. I disagree.

I have the feeling this years team will be a lot like the team of 2006. A team that looks dominating at the beginning of the season but could fall of as the All-Star break hits.

The potential starting line-up for opening day would be:
Ellsbury LF
Pedroia 2B
Martinez C
Youkilis 1B
Ortiz DH
Drew RF
Beltre 3B
Cameron CF
Scutaro SS
…that line-up, scored 733 runs last year. The 2009 Red Sox line-up scored 872, which average out to 5.3 runs per game. Where the 733 collected by these players last year only averages to 4.5 per game. Almost one run less per game, in the AL East, is not a good way to enter the season.

Which brings me to my next point, the Red Sox won 95 games last season and were 8 1/2 games behind the Division Winning Yankees. Does anyone really think, the Sox will win 95 games 3-1 or 4-2 all season. Especially when the Yankees will be scoring 5 or 6 runs a game there is no way the Sox will survive.

But what about the pitching?? isn’t that why the Sox got Lackey?? The team as a whole gave up 736 runs, 695 of those were earned. The starters (Beckett, Lester, Penny, Buchholz, Wakefield, Matsuzaka, Smoltz) gave up 434 earned runs. Now with this years potential starting five (Beckett, Lester, Lackey, Buchholz, Matsuzaka) gave up 324 earned runs. It is more than one hundred runs less but you must take into consideration that Buchholz only pitched 92.1 innings and Matsuzaka threw 59.1 innings.

If the pitching is healthy it will help out a lot, and the players acquired for the field are a little better defensively. I still do not think it will be enough. Beckett the past two seasons has fallen apart after 150 innings.

If Tampa is good again this year I will not be surprised if we finish third.

Tiger’s Back!!

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods has apparently resurfaced in a sex rehab facility in Mississippi. This is still an interesting story only because of Tiger’s lack of saying anything to the media. Which is a good thing and a bad thing. By not saying anything it leaves people to come out and say what ever they think because Tiger is not denying anything.

Now if Tiger would have just said something in the week within the time this happened, life might be a little easier on him. I know his face was all messed up from getting his ass kicked by his wife.

When Tiger does address the media for the first time, he should say he will donate all of his money this year to charity, every dime he makes. People will love him and all of the sponsors who pulled their sponsorship from Tiger will not even be able to ride his coat tails if he does dontate money.

Will Somebody Throw A Hit

This is an amazing goal. Usually when you see a player begin to dangle players, like the beginning of the video, it is a one man effort. The passing that resulted during this play is what makes the goal more impressive, a lot of good hands on that team.

As for the defense, someone throw a fucking hit!!! Watch the video, its 3 on 4 and even after the goal is scored there are only four guys in the goal celebration. So it’s not like this team was on the penalty kill. I know this is not the NHL, but I’m still blaming them. This “new NHL” is all about speed and being fancy and as a result all the players on D are just waving their sticks at the puck.

Jackass Edwards Quote of the Day

I know this is something I will not keep up with. But because I am blessed/cursed (depending how you look at it) being a Bruins fan, I have to suffer listening to Jackass Edwards call every game. His over all calling of the game is one of the best, but the analogies he uses in the game are just stupidly amusing.

NFL Picks, Championship Weekend

Well, I shit the bed last week in picks (1-3). Clearly I am only built for the regular season, going to have to do some tune-up’s in the off-season.

I still have not been able to decide if the Jets are a good team or not?? The D is incredible there is no argument there. But I’m finding it hard to believe that Rookie Mark Sánchez could win the Super Bowl. Only because when the team was struggling in the middle of the season it was all on Sánchez mistakes. The Jets are looking a lot like the Giants team of 2007. Where everyone was waiting for them to go away but they just kept winning.

Someone tell me what the hell happened to good old rough and tumble football. The Jets v. Chargers game, was the first game in the playoffs, played outside, on grass. Every NFC playoff game has been in a dome.

Anyways here are the picks:
Colts over Jets
Saints over Vikings

Meet the 9.3 Million Dollar Man

Jonathan Papelbon, Red Sox closer

The Red Sox and closer Jonathan Papelbon agreed to a one year $9.3MM contract. It is an interesting deal and one that kind of makes sence.

On the one hand, Papelbon is still one of the best closers in the game, although I thought he had a bad year last season. I was surprised when I looked at the numbers. He improved his numbers in 2009:
-Hits 2008: 58, 2009: 54
-Runs 2008: 24, 2009: 15
-Earned Runs 2008: 18, 2009: 14

Papelbon, however, walked the most guys he has during his career (24). Strikeouts, saves, innings pitched, ERA, and even homeruns were all in the same ball park as his other seasons.

The only reason why I am against this is Papelbon threw alot of fastballs last year and he almost seems to rely on it too much. He has one of the better splitters in the game, to compliment his fastball but all he does is try to throw the ball a million mph past every batter. Case & point, his walks total went through the rough last year.
