TSN — A slow start offensively for Edmonton Oilers forward Taylor Hall has started a debate as to whether the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 NHL draft would be better off with one more season in junior hockey.
The Oilers have given no indication that they will even consider sending Hall to the OHL before the nine-game mark in order to delay the start of his entry-level contract, but there are some who think that might be the right decision.
“Who does, the OHL team?” Calgary coach Brent Sutter joked. “That’s probably who it is. I’m sure they do want him back there.”
Hall (0 goals, 1 assist through five games) may not be lighting things up in the goal column, but he’s still showing flashes of the play that made him the top pick over Tyler Seguin in June’s draft.
Why do I get the feeling, the same thing would be happening if Seguin had gone to Edmonton. Seguin only has 1 goal and 2 assist in his first six games playing in the show. Ever since Crosby and Ovechkin came into the league it seems like every team that gets the first over all pick, just expects to draft a Crosby or Ovechkin type player. Sure, Tavarez and Stamkos are great players but they are developing into them.
Edmonton needs to give Hall time, they are a franchise in shambles with Hall being the answer. Give him time and let him develop and learn the game, no one can ever prove anything in their first nine games.
